Tarka Cabins
Where did the story come from?
Henry Williamson went to live in the remote Devon village of Georgeham in 1921, and soon he came to know every path of the rugged cliffs and moors of North Devon.
He had always had a passion for wildlife and, having kept a nature diary when he was a young boy, was determined to make a living from nature writing. He recalled how a stranger had arrived at his cottage asking for help in rescuing an orphaned otter cub. Henry brought it home, where his cat acted as a foster mother. But one day the otter became caught in a rabbit trap. When Williamson set him free, the otter ran off. Henry searched the countryside for months but he never saw the otter again.
The experience had sown the seeds in Henry’s mind for the story of Tarka.....
LUXURIOUS Accommodation
Follow the festoon lit sloping pathways under the canopy of trees and step inside the cabin to find your unique experience. Within your cosy cabin nestled in the woods you’ll find a sumptuous king-sized bed for a perfect nights sleep, an en-suite shower room, a kitchen with a combi oven, 2 hot plates, fridge ,a bistro table ,2 chairs and a sofa bed chair. Our cabins are warm and snug, even during the winter months! Forage for kindling and wood , light your fire pit and enjoy a warm night under the stars.

Absolutely great place to get away from life. Beautifully decorated cabins in the heart of the woods. The cabin is kitted out with that you will need and the ability to have a bbq or fire is fantastic in the evening. We utilised the hot tub for two of the nights we stayed which was lovely after a day of exploring the surrounding area. Would definitely recommend to anyone and 100% stay here again.

We had the most perfect woodland retreat here. We took full advantage of both pools, the hot tub, table tennis and fire pit. The accommodation is exceptionally well maintained and well thought out (there was a local guidebook, coffee and cafetière, cooking utensils and cleaning products). We would recommend this to anyone who just wants to escape and relax. To top things off, the setting is absolutely beautiful. We received lots of information prior to staying, including thorough directions to help us locate our cabin. Thank you Vicky for having us!

Absolutely first class! The cabin has everything you need, there was plenty of space inside for myself, my partner and our dog. The en-suite was perfect with possibly the most powerful shower I’ve ever had. (And I’m a plumber!!) Really comfortable Kingsize bed and the kitchen has all you need to cook a meal etc, although we used the fire pit/ bbq a lot of the time. The grounds has some lovely walks and we also made use of the outdoor pool and the hot tub. Locality was superb, with just a 10 minute drive into Bideford and another 10 minutes over the water to Instow for a fantastic beach. We also explored further afield to Woolacombe Bay which took around an hour. All in all a great week in a cracking cabin in a beautiful location !
Dimity
The most dreamy few days spent in Dimity Cabin at Beaconside. Everything was just wonderful, every little detail was thought of. We wanted somewhere to just switch off and enjoy the outdoors and that’s exactly what we got. The pictures do not do this place justice, it really is somewhere special. Vicky was amazing from start to finish with contact and welcoming our golden retriever. We will absolutely be back! Thank you.

Top notch cabin. Spotlessly clean and in a nice spot. We loved the cabin and our Springer Spaniel Bertie loved the woods! Definitely recommend if you have a dog. Wish we could’ve stayed longer… even Bertie protested to getting back in the car when we left. Gets 5 ⭐ from us!

Lovely brand new cabin in the middle of the woods which was very peaceful and private, set back from other cabins. Clean and comfortable, cabin had everything you needed including soap, cooking equipment, cleaning things. Amazing facilities including hot tub and outdoor and indoor pools and lovely walk around the venue with stunning views. Very dog friendly took our 6 month puppy with us.
